Teaching Π
Today is the second class of our language
teaching program; we have to conduct some review activities and organize a
small exam for our classmates to evaluate how they have learned from the class.
This time I personally think our group did
better than last week, and our classmates also seem to enjoy more. We first
review the alphabets, vocabularies and sentences. Then we sing the jazz chant together
again to strengthen their memory of those Turkish sentence, after that, we have
each classmate to create a simple introduction of their own as part of the
test. Probably because we have only five sentences, I think our classmates
learned them pretty well especially on the pronunciation. There are many
characters that look very similar but with different sounds, such as “ı” and “i.”
It was not easy to distinguish the difference in a vocabulary for beginners, but
after several practices and reminders from us, all of the classmates mastered
those sentences at the end. In addition, we also design Kahoot game for our classmates
to see their learning result. All the questions asked in Kahoot were covered in
the previous class, and we want to see if they remembered those or not. It
turned out that most classmates did paid attention in class and remembered the
necessary details we mentioned before; I really appreciate that they have
devoted themselves quite a lot in the learning. After Kahoot test, we have the last activity, that
is, playing a game called “voice tube,” in which we have each team to form a
line, and we will tell only the first students a vocabulary or a sentence in
Turkish. The first in the line has to tell the second what they have heard, and
the second has to pass the message to the third person, who will do the same to
the last member. After that, the last member will have to write the correct message
on the white board, and the first to write the correct vocabulary will get one
point. In the game, our classmates seem to have a lot of fun, and I think this
game is very effective in helping them to spell the Turkish word correctly. It
also helps them in speaking, memorizing words, and transforming message to
words. Therefore, I think this is a good strategy especially for children in
language learning; they can strengthen their language ability of different
aspects while playing an interesting game.
